  • Refine pores
  • Exfoliate deeply
  • Tighten and firm skin
  • Tame acne breakouts
  • Soften the look of scars
  • Stimulate skin cell repair
  • Trigger collagen production
  • Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation, freckles, & dark spots

If you are interested in a chemical peel Dedham Medical Aesthetics will provide you with a complimentary consultation.

What Is A Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a technique where a chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing it to exfoliate. This allows new skin to form in its place, which tends to be smoother and less wrinkled than the previous layer.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

Chemical peels work by using a powerful combination of chemicals (usually acids) to trigger exfoliation of the skin, improving a variety of skin concerns. These acids come in different strengths depending on the type of skin issue you are experiencing.

Who Can Have A Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels can correct so many skin problems that they are useful for just about anyone who has skin concerns. However, it is not suitable for some conditions. In certain cases, laser skin therapy or other cosmeceutical treatments may be recommended instead of a chemical peel if our facial expert thinks it will work better. Our knowledgeable peel specialist is committed to guiding you to the appropriate treatment so you can get the results you want.

As with most other cosmetic procedures, women that are pregnant or nursing are advised against receiving chemical peels. The chemicals in the peel are skin-safe. However, they are designed to penetrate the skin, and therefore should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

While chemical peels can correct a host of skin problems, it is best not to have a chemical peel on blistered, broken, wounded, inflamed, or sunburned skin.

Chemical Peel FAQs

Chemical peels vary in intensity and downtime. While light peels have little to no downtime, stronger peels may have a recovery period. However, this wouldn’t necessarily require time off from work or school.

For mild skin issues, such as dull skin and slight discoloration, a lighter peel may be suggested. The more severe the skin issue, the more likely a strong peel will be needed to produce adequate results. You will be advised of the chemical peel downtime to expect before getting treated so that you can plan accordingly.

While each chemical peel will vary depending on the specific treatment used, chemical peels generally cause exfoliation of the skin. This means your skin will peel and then heal, revealing youthful, healthy skin underneath. Some patients may choose to have multiple treatments to get the results they desire.

The cost of a chemical peel will vary depending on which method is used and how many treatments are received. To ensure our patients can get the best treatment possible, we offer flexible financing options including CareCredit®. Our office also accepts major credit cards, cash, and cashier’s checks.

While a single chemical peel treatment will likely yield noticeable results, most of our clients see the most benefit with repeat treatments. Peels are typically done in series of 3 but in some cases, you may need more. Peels are usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart. This gives enough time for the skin to repair itself before beginning the next treatment. It is best to come in for peels on a regular schedule. Each peel improves upon the results of the last.

Since chemical peels vary greatly in terms of strength, the side effects can be as minimal as a little dryness and light peeling to intense peeling, prolonged redness, and crusting. Not all patients require a very strong peel to get good results. Our goal is to match the treatment according to your cosmetic goals and willingness for downtime.

Chemical peels increase sun sensitivity. Please refrain from sun exposure and use SPF after treatment.
